What is windows registry

Windows registry editor imageWindows registry was developed with windows 3.1, later on winows 95, windows 98, windows 2000, windows XP and vista all adopted registry to store computer settings including hardware, software, OS and user settings.

Windows registry is in fact a huge database which includes six files under the config folder and Documents and Settings folder, but what we usually see is a registry editor called regedit.exe, it is a UI software which facilitates registries editing.

To edit your registry, go to start, locate run, type regedit and hit enter, then a regedit window prompts. It is strongly suggested that user should not modify their registry entries until you are a professional, or at least backup registry first (this could take a while) in case of any problem occurs.

Oftentimes windows refuse to startup due to registry errors; this could be caused by improper changes to the Widows registry by the users, softwares and viruses and needs repair. So it's very important for users to protect their computer registries from any damage, and that is why you need reg cleaners.
